Rachel DiCarlo’s Top Fives: Denim ‘N Coffee
Wherever you travel, your favorite pair of denim follows. It’s like your dependable best friend that always looks effortless and fits comfortably. In the same way, coffee’s a focal point of your next destination, whether you travel far to discover a new cafe or you stay nearby to study at your neighborhood coffee shop.
Rachel DiCarlo, vice president of PR at American Eagle Outfitters, knows the importance of denim that travels well and a great cup of coffee. “Do what you love to stay inspired,” she said. “I love drinking coffee so doing anything with a coffee in hand makes the situation instantly more fun.”
DiCarlo has found a tried-and-true cafe in every city she frequents. “Coffee shops are highly inspirational for me because I love people watching and drinking coffee — so the two together are a perfect combo!”
From Vietnamese iced coffee in New Orleans, to a cortado in Miami, we asked the PR maven to pair her favorite coffee orders with her go-to denim styles for spring.
MUD Coffee in NYC / AE Destroyed Tomgirl Jeans
MUD began as Mudtruck, the first original coffee street vendor in NYC, then bloomed into a cafe with a garden. The shop has a natural bohemian vibe with an all wood interior and stays true to its vagabond, free-spirited roots.
Coffee Order: Mud coffee drip with steamed milk and sugar. Or rather, what Rachel calls “clarity in a cup.”
Denim Pairing: AE destroyed tomgirl jeans. “These are easy to throw on with a cool Nike or Stan Smith and can be paired with an embroidered top or shirt that has a boho vibe.”
Alfred Coffee on Melrose in LA // AE Hi-Rise Light Blue Jegging
Located on Melrose Place, this classic LA spot draws cool people and has great energy. #Butfirstcoffee has always been Rachel’s mantra so she loves visiting Alfred coffee when she’s in LA to snap the perfect insta-moment!
Coffee Order: Latte
Denim Pairing: AE hi-rise jegging in a light blue. “It’s a classic that is super versatile. It can be dressed up or down which really fits my lifestyle. I always travel with them so I would wear them to Alfred’s in LA with a t-shirt and cool accessories to complete the look.”
District Donuts Sliders Brew in New Orleans // AE Vintage Hi-Rise
This neighborhood place is all about family and draws people in with their donuts and great menu. Its wooden booths and exposed brick add to its rustic, local vibe.
Coffee Order: “I’ve only been once but the Vietnamese iced coffee has really made such a lasting impression on me that I searched for it ever since!!”
Denim Pairing: “Vintage is back and I love our AE vintage hi-rise denim. It’s an easy denim fit and I would pair it with a vintage rocker tee making it perfect for this city that is all about music.”
La Colombe in NYC // AE Hi-Rise Black Jegging
This Noho coffee shop is downtown chic and great for people watching with its large windows. The line wraps around the counter where the coffee is made so you can watch all the action while you wait.
Coffee Order: A classic cappuccino. “It is just chic, cool and smooth.”
Denim Pairing: “La Colombe has a chic downtown vibe that is understated and cool. I would wear the hi-rise jegging in black with my go-to bomber jacket, a trend that is still going strong.”
Wynwood-Panther Coffee in Miami // AE White Skinny
This low-key cafe has an inviting, unique property with a tree anchored in the center surrounded by seating. Inside, you can take in the aroma while you watch the coffee beans roast.
Coffee Order: A Cortadito
Denim Pairing: “White denim has always been a staple in my wardrobe forever. My first memory of white denim is from my childhood when I wore them all summer long. I love wearing my AE white skinny when the weather is sunny so Panther in Miami is the perfect fit.”
